Frequently asked questions
How does upside-down text work?
Two steps: each character is swapped for a vertically flipped lookalike (a→ɐ, e→ǝ, t→ʇ…) and then the whole string is reversed, because flipping also reverses reading direction. The result reads bottom-up and still looks right.
Is flipping the text twice safe?
Yes — the flip table is built from reciprocal pairs, so applying the flip twice returns the original characters for everything in the table. Characters that have no upside-down equivalent (like o or s) never change in the first place.
Why do some letters look odd or turn into boxes?
The flipped glyphs (especially capitals like ᗡ or Ⅎ) are drawn from several Unicode blocks, and not every font ships them. If a device lacks a glyph you will see a fallback box — there is no way around font coverage.
Does it work with numbers and punctuation?
Digits 0–9 have upside-down lookalikes (6↔9 is exact, the rest are approximations), and common punctuation flips too: ? becomes ¿, ! becomes ¡, quotes and brackets swap orientation.
Will upside-down text work in search engines or code?
No — treat it as decoration. Search engines read the characters as symbols, and pasting it into code, file names or forms will produce symbol soup. It is meant for social profiles and jokes.
