Is MD5 still safe to use?
As a hash it is broken for security: collisions can be crafted in seconds, so never use it for passwords, signatures or integrity against an attacker. It remains fine for legacy checksums, cache keys and deduplication where nobody is adversarial — and this tool exists exactly for those cases.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The digest is computed in your browser by a local pure-JavaScript implementation; your input never leaves the page, so hashing sensitive strings is safe.
Why is the output 32 hex characters?
MD5 produces a 128-bit digest; hex encodes it as 32 characters (4 bits each). Some systems show the same bytes Base64-encoded — the underlying digest is identical.
Can two different texts have the same hash?
Yes — that is a collision, and for MD5 they are practically constructible. For non-adversarial uses (accidental corruption, duplicates) the chance is negligible, which is all such uses need.
Does Unicode change the digest?
The input is hashed as UTF-8 bytes, which is what most tools and languages use. The same visible text hashed with a different encoding (e.g. UTF-16) produces a different digest — UTF-8 here keeps results comparable.
